Propylene Glycol and Polyethylene Glycol – Ingredients Well Worth Avoiding
There are many nasty ingredients out there, but here I am going to touch on two that I find particularly bad: propylene glycol and polyethylene glycol. Otherwise known as PEG and PG, these ingredients are found in your car, your food, your pharmaceuticals, and (you guessed it) your personal care products. All this exposure is bad news if you value your health. Here is why:
Polyethylene Glycol – The Person You Don’t Want at a Party
Have you ever invited someone to a get-together, only to have that person invite a dozen of their friends? Before you know it, your food is gone, your house is ruined, and your neighbors aren’t speaking to you. Polyethylene glycol is that person.
The thing that PEG is best at is enhancing penetration. It helps other ingredients move deep down into your skin. So, when PEG joins a party, it brings all its friends with it, really ramping up the impact other undesirable compounds have on your skin.
Not only that, but PEG is often contaminated with some very nasty things. According to a report in the International Journal of Toxicology, PEG has been found to be contaminated with heavy metals (including lead) and ethylene oxide (an ingredient used to make mustard gas).1
When PEG penetrates your body, it also disrupts your skin’s ability to retain moisture. As a result, you end up with dryer, itchier, more irritated skin, which will probably leave you reaching for the same product that contained PEG in the first place. It is a vicious cycle and one that is hard to break without making a dramatic change in your skincare mindset.
I don’t know about you, but that sounds like the kind of party guest I would rather avoid… which I do.
Propylene Glycol – It’s Everywhere!
Here is a fun game: Try to find something that does not contain propylene glycol. Intravenous drugs? Check. Antifreeze? Check. Cake mixes? Check. Conventional personal care products? Big check on that one. PG is just about everywhere, and that is scary.
It is natural that an ingredient used in such a broad and varied range of products, from brake fluid to flavored iced tea to deodorant, would raise some suspicion. There has been quite a bit of research into PG, and the results are not comforting.
Even at relatively low concentrations, exposure to PG has been proven to cause irritation and allergic reaction. One report even shows that exposure to PG can cause skin, liver, and kidney damage.
Finally, just like PEG, PG increases penetration. That means the other ingredients in your lotions, shampoos, conditioners, and sun blocks can make it into your system much more easily. Over time, this exposure can really add up, especially when you consider just how often the average person encounters PG.
The safest bet is to avoid propylene glycol as much as possible, which is why I never use it in my formulations.
Doesn’t Your Skin Deserve Better?
There is no need to keep exposing yourself to PEG and PG, especially when there are plenty of alternatives out there. Choose propylene glycol and polyethylene glycol-free products and enjoy healthier (and happier) skin.
What are your experiences with propylene glycol and polyethylene glycol? Please tell me about them in the comments below.

I have been breaking out for several years now and have narrowed the cause down to Propylene Glycol and Polyethylene Glycol in some of the products I had been using. Propylene Glycol seems to be in everything from even Dove Sensitive Skin Soap to Shampoo and conditioners and in medications as fillers. As soon as I come in contact with something that it is in, I break out, sometimes even look like I have the measles; I believe it also causes blood to pool up under my skin. I believe the FDA needs to eliminate these 2 ingredients from all items that it is currently in. No wonder we have a bad epidemic of skin diseases, as the FDA keeps approving the use of chemicals that are clearly bad. They need to eliminate both of these products from everything.
That’s interesting. I’ve just had my second anaphylactic reaction to PEG. My first was to magrogol (which is the same thing as PEG). My allergic was severe and today I was told PEG is in a lot of surgical preps. Be very careful if you have topical reactions as you might have an allergy like mine. Life threatening.
I found out that I’m allergic to propylene glycol and was wondering what soaps do not have this in it.
Three years ago I broke out with a rash on one leg. After being treated for poison ivy, scabies etc my rash kept spreading until I was covered from head to toe. The 24/7 itch and rash that lasted for six months nearly caused me to go crazy. Finally I had an allergy patch test administered which showed that I was allergic to propylene glycol and 2 other things. That was when my life changed because I had to find all new personal care products, change many of the foods I ate, quit dying my hair, quit drinking soda and many other fluids, ETC. because they all contained propylene glycol. I was told to avoid PG but was not told products that would be safe for me. I had to be my own advocate so after hours and hours of research I began to put my life back together. I’ve been rash free for over a year now so my hours of research paid off.

You have to just read labels it very hard to buy a drink in store because of PG use in Sodas, etc.?Stay away from Purell. You have to read literally to find what doesn’t contain But, bet most popular
I found out I was allergic to propylene glycol several years ago after my the skin under my eyes became dry, itchy and peeled off! My skin can tolerate some, but my dermatologist suggested I stay away from it as much as possible. I’m now trying contacts but my eyes are apparently dry, so I was given “blink” drops to use. Well, turns out they have polyethylene glycol, which drove me to research the similarities between the two ingredients. I’ll be looking for different eye drops.

Could you list the products which are PEG free??
We have discovered that my husband is allergic to polyethylene glycol. He went into anaphylaxis shock after a colonoscopy. They say there was no PEG involved but there was PG. wonder if that did it. He was having problems with Colonoscopy preps, generic mucinex D, skin cream from dermatologist for rash. Now wondering about shave cream and deodorants. It’s crazy. It would answer a lot of questions Really need to read ingredients and he actually has a emergency alert bracelet
I also went into anaphylactic shock during a colonoscopy. I told them I was allergic to PEG (as I knew from my trip to the emergency room after drinking MiraLAX before a previously scheduled colonoscopy, but I reacted either to the PEG in the lubricant my doctor used or the PG in the sedative (Propofol) the anesthesiologist used — or both. Please find an allergist who will perform skin tests on you and get to the bottom of it. The makers of Propofol pretend that the only problems come from egg and soy allergies, but that’s not true. There is a terrible lack of information by ER doctors, anesthesiologists, and gastroenterologists about the dangers posed by PG and PEG to those sensitive to it. (Not everyone is, but if you are, you are very sensitive and possibly very allergic to it.) Also, children should NEVER take MiraLAX or any laxative with PG, but pediatricians prescribe it anyway, with sometimes tragic results.

Propylene glycol is the main ingredient in e-liquids inhaled as ‘vapour’ along with nicotine in e-cigarettes (‘vaping’). It is said to be ‘generally recognized as safe’ (GRAS List). Of course it was not usually inhaled, but a food additive. Since about 20-30% of teens and young adults have tried vaping, this may now be the main source of exposure to PG. Safer than inhaling smoke to get nicotine, but its long term effects are an uncontrolled experiment in progress.

I was given Polyethylene Glycol to DRINK!!! Thats correct!! My doc gave it to me for constipation..yep, it works…but i DID NOT Know how dangerous it is until now. Thanks for the article
I have had several anaphalactic allergic reactions from different coloscopy preps: go lightly, osmo prep, mirilax and hives all over my body from topical things such as spray tanning, liquid soaps (mostly all of them) moisturizer, laundry detergent. I went to a dermatologist and she finally discovered that I was allergic to PEG. It is not commonly known as an allergen. My doctor who gave me preps said he never heard of it in his 25 years of practicing. Educate yourself! Any medications or hospital visits TELL THEM!!!!!!! I almost died 2x from anaphylactic allergic reactions!!!!!
I discovered my reaction to propylene glycol when I was around theatrical fog (PG in fog form). This caused immediate stabbing pain in my head and temporary loss of my voice (1-6 hrs). Since then I discovered it to be the cause of severe constipation due to the removal of moisture in the intestines. It is even in cigarette filters and many air fresheners such as Glade plugins. Even pills which has PG in the ink used to stamp ID# on pills cause noticeable constipation and after pro-longed use I have trouble with deep breathing such as in singing. Products such as Biotene (has PG) for dry mouth actually causes my gums to bleed. PG seems to be everywhere! The more costly non-generic drugs often do not have PG, but prior authorization is usually required and it cost more. PG is making life very difficult for me.
Propylene glycol in medicines caused me anaphylactic reactions. I was in an oil spill in 2004 and the fumes gave me a lung burn and sensitized me to petroleum in any form. The inhalers that I was using for my REACTIVE AIRWAY DISEASE, contained propylene glycol. Trying to follow the plan doctors set in place, not realizing that the very medication used to help me breathe was making me worst. But it was not until my pointer finger started turning black over the knuckle, and after I would use my inhaler, or take Avalox for infections, I would be shocked that with 10 minutes, my finger would look as though someone had poured hot grease on it. After a few very painful days, the burnt flesh would turn whitish and “molt”; peel off layer by layer. Finally a surgeon performed surgery on it , to remove what drs described as ‘bleeding under the skin’. But as soon as I exhaled the tar from a freshly paved road, my finger again swelled, turn reddish black and started to shed. Doctors would have to see it in the shedding state to believe what I was saying. Going from dermatologist to surgeons, to infectious disease drs was awful. Finally a hand surgeon took a biopsy while it was in the molting stage. The biopsy came back with unbelievable finding. But it was going to a bigger hospital to an allergist who right away recognized that the black, necrotic looking, painful finger was because I was allergic to propylene glycol, polyethylene glycol, PEG, and glycerine . One of the problems is manufacturers create new names and hide the real dangerous ingredients under different names that a lay person would not identify as being dangerous. My disease now has left me with the slightest smell of an offending compound ( the glycols) my lips will blister, my throat will swell and close, and blister, my voice changes to this horrible sound and I have difficulty breathing. Research, be your own advocate, protect yourself. No government agency, is going to stop manufacturers from advertising and putting this known harmful additives to their products. When you get the chance, check out the MCS sites. Wish you wellness.
Hi, what a horrifying story. I’m having a really bad reaction to polyethylene glycol. Would love to know what the MCS sites are.
Too many acronyms to keep track of these days, can you help me with what that stands for?
Thanks… the best of luck to you.
PS My problem is that my throat gets an uncomfortable lump in it that I can feel right through to my back. This stuff is in so many pills. Found it in ibuprofen, and one of my prescription meds. Ugh.
Proplyene Glycol causes Beri beri Disease B1 blocked which is catalyst in Citric Acid Cycle when working is Metabolism. Causes Beri beri = Worneki Encelopathy Neurological system attacked Respiratory then attacks Neurological in Brain. These two anti freezes Attack Neurological system sympathetic and parasympathetic neurological systems. Cause Keto Acidosis from interference with Insulin uptake and B1 Thiamine pluging into B1 As Catalyst of Citric Acid Cycle the cause of Metabolism of and within the body.
I have to constantly let Drs give him products that do not state on description these glycols in medications let him crash then tell dr what going to happen after they give him potassium next he will be magnesium defecient then aspirate. Sit there on camera because they think I giving him something when IS WHAT THEY ARE GIVING HIM THAT IS KILLING HIM causing Worneki Encelopathy Aspiration Pneumonia Kidney Failure, pancreatic failure then they give him melformin which has propolyene glycol because of propolyene glycol they gave him. ,Liver Failure, Keto Acidosis. Leukocytopenia. He had NO RBC WBC frags sed, protiens in plasma was clearer than glass water when arterial blood drawn by lab. I HAD TO TELL LAB TECH TO PROCESS THE CLEAR FLUID PLASMA from Arterial Blood Draw, after third bottle drawn.
This is why people not like Doctors. They are to many Dangerously undereducated arrogant.
Oh my gosh! I know how you all feel! My husband has gone through many of the same things as you all. Doctors just don’t even seem to get it! We actually figured it out ourselves after a trip to the ER. He took Prilosec OTC, that he had been taking every now and then for at least a year with no problem but this time was much different. Out daughter is a nurse and gave him 4 Benadryl and off to the ER we went. We weren’t 2 miles down the road and had to call 911. Ambulance met us and we were told later if she hadn’t given him the Benadryl he might not have made it. Said they had never heard of anyone being allergic to Prilosec. Then a few months later an episode with MiraLAX. Had to use EpiPen this time. We googled ingredients in the two and guess what! So we now tell them all about it. Even our pharmacy knows. Since then problems with Movi Prep, fentanyl, Propofol and a shot docs gave him in his back in hopes of no surgery. First shot no problems. Went home right after it. The second shot gave him about a five hour stay in the hospital because he is now allergic to it! When I asked if there was anything different in this shot from the first doc said no the exact stuff. But no polyethylene glycol in either of them. So just wondering if maybe the name was changed and it got by everyone. Needless to say there wasn’t a 3rd shot but surgery. Pharmacy can filter precribed meds but not otc meds. So yes! Check those inactive ingredients in everything! I was told that even in juices sometimes. And maybe not this time but could be next time in the exact same brand and flavor! This is some bad stuff! The docs said they had never heard of it either!
Humm. Seems USA Fireball Wiskey makes a Version for in USA consumption which, contains proplyene glycol. Export Firebalk Wiskey Not Contain Proplyene Glycol, this antifreeze product enhances triples effect of alcohol and freq. Consumption stores in fat layer next to skin. With loss of this layer the stored product is released into bloodstream as “Ethanol”.
A person with problem and weight loss would test as drunk appearing as Drunk.
Now, back to exported Domestic Fireball wiskey made for consumption in USA. Exported to shipment sent for UK dispersement first port Ireland to be distributed to Scotland… The owner of Schanuch Wiskey had ordered some of Fireball Wiskey, on web Page forum discussion, revealed his Fireball wiskey shipment included in Customs Confiscation. And his,had been confiscated. Also shipments to Spain, Australia… . Ireland.

My daughter has anaphylactic shock when in contact with propylene glycol !!!!! And even worse is Polyvidone. Here at home we have to read everything !!! And when walking in the street, if someone passes a perfume or a spray or any smelling environment that has propylene glycol, or polyvidone her throat closes almost instantly. She hás an exacerbated reaction. We always walk with injections of adrenaline and corticoid in the bag to guarantee her safety. We live in Brazil and are looking for an allergist who might know of some treatment or anything that might help us
You will want to check with allergist before getting covid vaccine. Pfizer contains polyethylene glycol.
Does anyone here know how to identify a PEG allergy? They are now advising people to rule out a PEG allergy before getting the covid vaccine. I have been researching allergy tests for PEG and it appears there is not a blood serum test. So how do people identify a PEG allergy?
If you’ve had a reaction to the golytely colon prep, or an allergy to miralax. They contain miralax. Who can disprove your allergy? 😉
Correction- they contain polyethylene glycol.
My name is Donald and I have the worst allergic reaction to propylene glycol. It causes sores to brake out on my body which itch so bad. I have to avoid everything and rely on just organic food an products and by doing so have more control of my allergy.
Hi Donald, I’m in the same boat as you and it took 2 years for the allergy to PG to be diagnosed due to the fact that it’s in everything. I was given corticosteroid cream by the doctor to help with it… which also contains PG so it was useless and was actually making things worst. Fresh food and home cooking are the way to go. Also, PG is in red wine so I can no longer drink it but I can drink locally made mead which uses honey as natural preservative instead of PG. Anything locally made will likely not have any PG in it. Best of luck to you!
Also, be aware of seemingly natural ingredients such as Himalayan salt! After a bad allergic reaction, I discovered that PG is used in the salt to make its pink color more uniformed! The caramel color has also PG.
I get severe rashes with Polyethylene Glycols (PEG) with hydrogenated castor oil. That’s PEG-2,20,25,30,35,40,69,65, 200 and 2000. I didn’t know it was in the vaccine and I broke out in a horrible, angry rash that is still flaring several months later. I did mention my problem with castor oil when getting the vaccine, but was told there is no castor in it. That was what led me to doing some research. Indeed, the mRNA vaccines (Pfizer and Moderna) have PEG-2000, which has a derivative of castor oil. I am not sure if I am allergic to PEG or castor oil. But both are in everything. I am schedule to see an allergist to hopefully find out.
I had the same thing happened to me. I’ve never been so miserable in my life.
I’m concerned about taking the Pfizer and Moderna Covid vaccines because they both contain PEGs. I also tested positive on an allergy test to propylene glycol.
I think I also am a PEG allergist person. My allergist told me they could not test for PEG. would you please tell me the name of your doctor who tested you and how it was done. Thank you from a concerned and frustrated man!
Mark I found out about my allergy to propylene glycol many years ago by my dermatologist. He done several chemical patch tests on my back which had to stay on for two days. I had a severe reaction to propylene glycol and I was very very miserable 😢 Hope this helps and hope you’re not allergic to this.
Mark, same as Kellye Ashley. My dermatologist sent me to a specialist who put a series of about 72 patches on my back and I had to keep them about 2 days. It showed a reaction to propylene glycol. You can find some information on the Mayo clinic. Good luck!
This is my exact question for I’m highly allergic to propylene glycol and I can’t seem to get any answers. Help!!!! This could be very bad for people such as us….
I am extremely allergic to propylene glycol, it takes five days for me to get a reaction. I wound up getting an extreme asthma attack. I have never had asthma in my life. Found out dentist was using a numbing agent with PE in it. Could of died I carry an epi pen. Never know where PE shows up.
I have IBS. I know store bought bread and bakery items are a huge trigger for an attack. I can eat home made or bread from a bakery so I know it’s not a gluten sensitivity. Doing research on the vaccine I read about the allergic reactions to this chemical. Guess what? It’s in a lot of foods, one being breads, cake and ice cream. I’m getting tested and not getting the vaccine
So the question is, can we take the vaccine if allergic to propylene glycol. I had terrible reactions for several months and in and out of anaphylaxis. On top of the painful rash all over, difficulty breathing, my throat would close causing me to not be able to breathe. This happened many times before finally coming up with the deathly reaction to this. Can I take the vaccine as it’s so similar to polyethylene glycol? No one seems to know or really even care.
This is my same concern for the exact reasons you just stated. I too am highly allergic to propylene glycol and have horrible skin reactions to it. I don’t know what to do about these vaccinations and I can’t find anyone that knows the answers. This is very frustrating😢
J&J vaccine has no propylene or polyethylene glycols.
I was led to believe by my drs inhouse pharmacist that the moderena had polyethelene glycol in
I am allergic to propylene glycol. My face used to swell near the eyes and got very itchy and red. I had no difficulty breathing. Now I try to avoid that ingredient as much as possible. I read all the labels. I took the 1st Moderna vaccine on March 22nd. I had no reaction and will be taking the 2nd vaccine .
Always better to wait and see on these experimental things. Why allow yourself to be the king’s taste tester?
Start digging and looking under the rocks and you find the entrance to a rabbit warren where you stand up and not only wait or be “vaccine hesitant” (now there’s a twisted phrase)
You’ll not only say “no” but instead “Hell No!”

I choose to NOT get the vaccine because of my allergy and you are much worse than me. Another friend sounds like you and she is not getting it. She had a reaction to a Depo-Medrol injection as well. Hospitalizations several times.
About a year ago I found out I have a toxicity to fuels and hydrocarbons of which propylene glycol is. In my early days working for an airline I de-iced aircraft and that is the main component of
de-ice fluid. It didn’t take much to be exposed to that doing that job. I try to use all chemical free skin care. My skin gets itchy if I use anything with chemicals in it.
Starting at approximately 12 hours after my second COVID-19 shot I started itching. I have run the gamut of
Anti itch sprays and ointments and I still itch. First vaccine shot that has caused me any trouble and I am 90 years old.
It is probably caused by the polyethylene glycol in the vaccine
Why didn’t you heed all the warnings about these shots being experimental, making humans the guinea pigs?
I am allergic to soy, which is often used to make propylene glycol, it’s not a life threatening one but still severe.
And I just read that Dr. Fauci is saying people with a strong reaction to propylene glycol should probably not get the vaccine. So now I’m torn.
I am allergic to propylene glycol. I will NOT be getting ANY of the co vaccines.
When did Dr. Fauci say this? As someone who is severely allergic to propylene glycol- I would love to hear more.
I just looked it up, he said polyethylene glycol not propylene glycol. I have a propylene glycol allergy too.
I did get the Pfizer vaccine and had a bad allergic reaction to the PEG IN IT. I did not get the second vaccine. Wish I’d. Ever gotten it. Have had nothing but trouble since the first shot in January 25. Now I have to keep PEG out of everything and I’d never had any allergies in my life.
My allergy list is from my dermatologist and lists Propylene Glycol. Previous comments lead me to believe I should not get either vaccine. But J & J lists ‘ethanol’ and my allergy list lists several items starting with ‘Ethyl’ and haven’t found any info if this is the same thing and would eliminate J & J.
I have a history of allergy to flu and pneumonia vaccines so I haven’t gotten them in years. My allergist had me wait until he obtained vaccine so I could get my covid vaccine in his office. I got my first dose of Moderna and anaphylaxis within 10 minutes. It is likely the polysorbate which people react to in the vaccines. Polysorbate is a “chemical cousin” to PEG (polyethylene glycol) and if you’re allergic to one, it is likely you will react to the other. It is in all currently available covid vaccines. My advice is to speak with your doctor about your concerns.
These chemicals are so dangerous. I worked in Aviation for years and we de-ice the planes with propylene glycol. I have even seen it in some yogurts and some ice creams. I know a lady in California who died from propylene glycol. I will not get the vaccine for obvious reasons. Do not use it. Read your labels. There is so much PG in lotions, conditioners, some foods. Not worth the risk!!!
Has anyone got mouth ulcers and sore tongue from PG?
I am anaphylactic to PEG. I found out by being given MIRILAX in the hospital. Unfortunately both mRNA vaxes contain PEG. However the J&J does not. I had J&J in April and had no allergic side effects just the normal ones that show your body is ramping up the immune system. I would and may have to do it again and would have no hesitation. Covid doesn’t discriminate re those of us with allergies.
Wow, Thank You everyone for sharing your personal stories snd information. All of this is and has been frustrating. Talking to eachother helps! We are not alone. Prayers for your conditions and healings, in Jesus name.
what an eye opener. A dental product Emdogain is 6 to 8% propylene Glycol. No one it caused me so much allergy grief.
I realized I am highly sensitive to PEG and PG and Polysorbate (and Heaven knows what else) a few months ago and eliminated all medications that have it as an ingredient.. not easy. I am so much better…I had much trouble walking without horrible muscle issues–cramping and pain– for thirty years since a statin I took for three years with PEG in it. It’s a long story but I am freer of it than ever but still trying to eliminate all of it. Four days after eliminating these as much as possible, I was able to walk the length of my home easily and now, 6 weeks later I can walk two hundred feet without much pain. I am looking for resources to educate myself more about additives.
I have just found out that I am allergic to both PEG and PG I have known for some time that I am allergic to fillers and coating on some medication and 3 weeks ago I had the Pfizer booster which made me so ill with a reaction to my central nervous system ended up in Hospital with an AF attack. The good thing about it is at least I know the names of the substances I am allergic too and avoid them like the plague
The same thing happened to me! I had no idea I was allergic to PEG and that it was in the Pfizer covid shot- I misunderstood past allergic reactions and attributed them to other allergens when it’s been PEG all along!
And, thank you for sharing… I also had a crazy reaction to the covid Pfizer vaccine ~ when I pressed them they said that PEG can cause allergy for a small number of people… for me it caused a neurological & systemic reaction that lasted almost 8 weeks… your post, like the one above, helps me narrow down that this really was most likely the cause. It’s been hard to get any really clear information on it. Thank you.
I’m SO sorry you went through this! And, thank you for sharing… so scary ~ I also had a crazy reaction to the covid Pfizer vaccine ~ when I pressed them they said that PEG can cause allergy for a small number of people… for me it caused a neurological & systemic reaction that lasted almost 8 weeks… your post helps me narrow down that this really was most likely the cause. Thank you.
Can you tell me more about your reaction? My mom also had a reaction to the Moderna vaccine, and she has a reaction to most things that contain PEG, but it’s not a normal allergic reaction – her heart rate just goes super high (200+ bpm) and none of the doctors believe it’s an allergy. She was patch tested and she had the same reaction, and they still say it’s her heart. We’re trying to narrow it down but I’m just wondering if maybe somebody else had the same kind of reaction! Hope you’re doing well
My husband can’t eat so many foods. They all contain PG. Before it was uncontrollable itching on his skin. Now, he gets sores, blisters in his his mouth. He hardly eats. Any help, suggestions would be appreciated.
My husband has multiple chemical sensitivities and has to eat a really pure diet. No commercial Foods at all. I make everything from scratch which is very time consuming but well worth his health and vitality. Only organic Foods, only filtered water.., only grass-fed organic beef and eggs, only organic red rice and organic steel cut oatmeal Etc. Doing all your own cooking from scratch is the only way you can be sure you are getting Pure Food without chemicals. Blessings

I recently became very ill. I had been under an extreme amount of stress and I had tried otc medicine to help with my sanity. Nothing was truly helping until I tried vaping Sativa. After about 3 months of doing so I became very sick. Was constantly nauseous couldn’t eat. I couldn’t figure out what was doing it and was starting to vape more. I ended up going to a GI doctor and he did an exploratory surgery on me and couldn’t see anything significant but I had told him about my vaping and he suggested I stopped. After about a month I did start to feel better. A year later I was allergy tested by my dermatologist and she found I was allergic to propylene glycol which is found in vape juice! It was the PG that was getting me sick the whole time!! She has since gave me an extensive list of products that I can use!
That’s an amazing story and I’m glad you found the cause of the problem. Thank you for sharing it with us.

I work in community health & just ordered some high quality ‘masks’ as I work in close contact with my patients & covid cases are high in the community here again ~ they arrived last night ~ & an almost immediate allergic reaction to the product has sent me on a mission to try to understand what happened… many calls later & some web searching led me here as one of the product ‘materials’ is propylene ~ ugh! I still feel nauseous & disoriented and it’s now the following day…
I was diagnosed as being allergic to PG and PEG in 1998, 12 months after moving from the UK to the USA. I had experienced digestive problems and erosion of the mouth for 5/6 years before my move to the US, but it was put down to irritable bowel syndrome and acid reflux. Within weeks of arriving in the USA it got significantly worse and my whole mouth and oesophagus became raw. After multiple tests at the local hospital in Minneapolis I was referred to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, where I spent a week undergoing tests. A dermatologist ordered a series of patch tests which identified my allergies. Interestingly I discovered the FDA allows significantly more PG/PEG in foods and Pharma products than Europe. (Hence, the significant effect on moving) Knowing what I am allergic to allows me to avoid foods containing my poison for the most part. Thank goodness my wife is a great cook!
Hi! Do you have any idea what other products contain PEG? I believe my mom is allergic, none of the doctors believe her even though she had a patch test done and had a reaction. Her reaction is different than most allergic reactions- her heart rate goes high. Lately she’s been having reactions to items containing palm oil, and we’ve learned that it’s a derivative of PEG, and so we were trying to find everything that’s a derivative and there isn’t much info online. If you know of anything please let me know! I believe soybean oil and sunflower oil may also have traces of it but I’m not sure. Thanks!
Hi how has the vaccine affected you, has it made your body hyper sensitive and do you suffer from Anxiety and fast heart rate.
Hi Julia, I have the same reaction to your Mum, it is caused by Polyethylene Glycol which is in all over counter and prescription Drugs.I am very lucky that my GP is on board with me but if I end up in A&E and tell the Doctors that I am allergic to everything they just laugh at me and say that is not possible. You should go on to the Web MD site and check on the serious rare side effects of Polyethylene Glycol the reading is very scary. If your Mother is on any other medication you need to check if Polyethylene Glycol is in it, if it is. it will feed the allergy and make everything worse
Hi – I felt I would share this . . .
I am just about 60 years old – when I was 5 I got a vaccine shot – I ended up getting seriously sick and developed a cross eye (my mom said no more vaccines for you) This same thing happened to my sister and two cousins. So years later I developed more allergies. When the COVID Vaccine came out and they were forcing us to get it – I asked my allergist if I should get it. He said they are coming out with a test for PEG. So when it came in he called me and sure enough I went in and I reacted to it instantly. So to say the least I a m glad I was able to proof that this is real and people should be aware. I have watched many people have heartaches – strokes and many other severe reactions to the COVID vaccine. Which I should mention has PEG in it. I also have had a problem with nerve sensations for years and they blame it on head injuries. While I
Figured that out too – it was the cream I was using had PEG in it and apparently when you use cream on your skin 70% gets absorbed . That’s full body cream – so just think what it does to other parts of your body . . .
Thanks for sharing, I’m allergic to penicillin which has PEG in ir and it nearly killed me years ago, so I knew it was in Pfizer, so I wasn’t going to get the vaccine, and I’m so glad I didn’t, as its caused blood clotting in the family.
