Hello! I’m Christina Moss. I create natural hair and skin products and I’m a science fiction author. This is the place where SciFi meets Natural Beauty.
I grew up in a small New England town north of Boston, steeped in Colonial history and noble pride for the role it played in the birth of a nation. Though the world seemed daunting and sometimes harsh to my young self, an artistic mother and an admiring father anchored me.
Surrounded by hard-working, salt-of-the-earth parents and friends, I learned the homemaking skills of sewing, knitting, baking, mothering, building relationships, and crafting healing remedies.
As a young entrepreneur, just shy of ten years old, I organized a neighborhood band with two friends and cheap instruments. We sang patriotic songs for stay-at-home moms who smiled warmly and paid us a nickel to go away. In those days, a nickel bought a Hershey Bar. But we earned those nickels, so we swelled with success, and our futures looked promising.
One summer, I decided the neighborhood needed a newspaper. My misguided friends went along with me once again. We called it 5th St. News, and carefully stamped out letter-by-letter editorials on important topics, such as how Rusty, the dog, slept on a man-hole cover to keep cool. We urged drivers to stop beeping at poor old Rusty and suggested they kindly walk him home instead.
A few times, I set up a neighborhood store in the front yard and sold my siblings’ old toys. I may or may not have asked for permission to sell their stuff. I was still a few years away from grasping the concept of ethics.
I fell in love with science fiction at a young age, and I love it to this day. It’s an under appreciated genre. Science Fiction ignites creative ideas, guides ethics, and expands possibilities. Visions of starships, expanding cosmos, racial inclusion, and terraforming inspired me to dream bigger and make better.
In junior high school, I especially loved science, art, and I always loved books. My passion for learning continued in high school, where a practical business program taught us marketing and business skills by managing the school store, scheduling personnel, providing customer service, banking, and managing inventory.
After high school, I started a family of my own, putting my homemaking skills to good use. Later, I became a teacher, sharing my love of learning with students. When my children grew up and began lives of their own, I began writing SciFi and creating natural hair and skin care products.
My experiences in my New England town shaped a life of creativity and community, which I reflect on fondly.
